  1. What if you could cut your mortgage rate, make it easier to update your will, and ensure that your buddy was never able to weasel out of paying up on a bet? That and much more is the promise of smart contracts, a technology that is getting closer and closer to reality thanks to cryptocurrency.

Smart contracts are computer programs that can automatically execute the terms of a contract. Someday, these programs may replace lawyers and banks for handling certain common financial transactions.

And the potential for smart contracts goes way beyond simple transfers of funds. The door of a car or a house could be unlocked by connecting smart contracts to the Internet of everything. But as always with this cutting edge of financial technology, major questions abound: How will this all align with our current legal system? And, of course, will anyone actually use these things anyway?

  2. Anthony Gregory - 1/29/2005

If libertarians can explain that the right actually opposes free markets, but instead embraces corporatism and state capitalism, the battle to win them over will be half-won. One reason they don't like markets is because people like Bush pretend to like them, but I think the left is catching on.

For years, I think libertarians have tried to convince the left that the right was actually correct on economics. This is the wrong strategy.

  4. Specifically, the bill reads: "Any request by a government agency to interrupt communications service utilizing a technological solution required by this section is subject to Section 7908 of the Public Utilities Code."

  5. As incredible as it seems, the bourgeoisie seem to be turning against the police. In the wake of Ferguson, polls say that about half of us don’t trust them. Obviously, blacks remain way ahead of the curve on this, having been maltreated by the cops for many decades. But with whites catching up, we are starting to see a consensus developing.

  9. Conservatives want to mimic us, and liberals are scared of us. Max Freeman explains why in The Freeman. “In the peer-to-peer age, you really want to try to solve the world’s problems with the blunt instrument of government power? Dirigisme? How gaucheProgressives love to pay lip sercive to equality and egalitarianism, yet never fail to support the centralization of state power that enriches corporations, benefits the 1%, harms the poor and the most vulnerable in society, and disincentivizes local solutions to local problems. Libertarianism is the real progressivism, and their focused hostility forces them to look in a mirror and wince.
